Job Description

About This Position The Public Works Department strives to improve the quality of life in Phoenix through efficient delivery of outstanding solid waste, fleet, facilities, and energy management services. The Public Works Department is currently looking for a skilled Plumber - Building Maintenance Worker with extensive journey level experience in maintenance, repair, and alteration of plumbing systems, remodeling of offices, houses, and other facilities. Assignments include numerous trades and skills such as plumbing, rough carpentry, drywall repairs, and painting. Responsibilities Include • Determining appropriate work methods, tools, and materials used for most assignments. • Work is performed independently or in teams and could involve occasionally serving as a crew leader over other Building Maintenance Workers for specified projects. SALARY Pay Range: $26.70 to $39.45 per hour. Hiring Range: $26.70 to $32.46 per hour. Pay Range Explanation • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade. • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit. For more details, visit: Unit 002 Benefits Minimum Qualifications • Three years of skilled level experience in building maintenance and repair work, with a high level of proficiency in at least two of the building trades. • AND Completion of an acceptable apprenticeship program. • OR Six years of trades experience, three of which are at the skilled level, with a high level of proficiency in at least two of the building trades. • Backflow Certification (or similar plumbing certification) is required at time of application. • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. • Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprinted and will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job. • These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Experience With • Commercial plumbing; repair of water lines, drain line, and vents. • Various building codes, standards, and construction practices (NFPA). • Managing vendors or subcontractors. • Commercial tenant improvement. • Construction. • Finish/Top Out plumbing.
