We’re Hiring! Raise is hiring an experienced Welder for a contract position with one of our leading manufacturing clients in Austin, TX. This onsite role is ideal for a welder with hands-on Orbital experience who takes pride in precision work and safety-first practices. This is a contract-to-hire role and opportunities for overtime are there! We are doing a hiring event on September 1st and offers will be made on the spot by Applied Materials hiring managers. Project Details & Logistics • Location: Austin, TX • Role Type: Contract 18-month assignment with opportunity to convert • Pay Range: $20.00–$27.50 per hour • Potential for conversion to full-time/permanent • Starting Rate: Determined based on years of applicable welding experience, certifications, and onsite skills assessment. • Skills Assessment: Final pay offers are contingent upon the results of the interview process and evaluation of applicable welding experience. Role Summary As an Orbital Welder, you'll join a precision fabrication team responsible for building and testing mechanical, vacuum, and pneumatic assemblies used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You'll operate orbital welding equipment to fabricate stainless steel tubing, fittings, and specialty alloy components while maintaining the highest standards for weld quality, cleanliness, and repeatability. Working in a high-precision, cleanroom-adjacent manufacturing environment, you'll perform orbital welding, mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, leak testing, equipment maintenance, and documentation while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Whether you're an entry-level welder with strong TIG fundamentals or an experienced orbital welder, you'll have opportunities to grow within Applied Materials' advanced manufacturing operations. Responsibilities • Set up and operate orbital (autogenous and wire-fed) welding equipment to join stainless steel and specialty alloy tubing, fittings, and vacuum components to exacting quality standards. • Read and interpret work orders, operation method sheets, blueprints, weld procedure specifications (WPS), and P&ID drawings to determine weld sequence, joint preparation, and acceptance criteria. • Perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, troubleshooting, and repair of vacuum, gas delivery, and pneumatic subassemblies. • Inspect completed welds visually and with precision measuring and leak-detection instruments; identify, document, and correct defects or nonconformances. • Purge, weld, and verify high-purity gas and chemical delivery lines to semiconductor industry cleanliness standards. • Utilize test fixtures, electronic measurement equipment, leak detectors, and/or vacuum pumps to test finished assemblies and components. • Maintain accurate production records, including work progress, labor, and material usage. • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot orbital welding heads and power supplies; escalate equipment issues as needed. • Observe all safety standards while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area. • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying process inefficiencies and recommending corrective or preventive actions. Qualifications • Minimum: High school diploma or GED. Experience: • Welder I: Entry-level candidates with a welding certificate, technical degree, or strong TIG welding fundamentals are encouraged to apply. Orbital welding training is provided. • Welder II: 1–3 years of hands-on welding experience in manufacturing, aerospace, semiconductor, or high-purity fabrication environments. Orbital and TIG welding experience is strongly preferred. Skills: • Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and weld procedure specifications (WPS). • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. • Basic computer skills for production documentation and data entry. • Ability to safely operate welding equipment and precision hand tools. Preferred: • Technical diploma or Associate degree in Welding Technology, Machining, or a related trade. • Completion of a formal welding apprenticeship, trade school, or military welding program. • AWS D1.1/D1.6, ASME Section IX, or equivalent welding certifications. • Manual TIG and MIG welding experience. • Knowledge of high-purity or semiconductor manufacturing standards. • OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain. Physical Requirements & Environment • This is a physically demanding position that requires standing, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 35 lbs., and working in confined spaces for extended periods. • Cleanroom Protocol: Requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including cleanroom coveralls, hood, mask, booties, gloves, welding helmet, safety glasses, and steel-toed footwear. • Safety: Work is performed in a manufacturing and fabrication environment within cleanroom and laboratory spaces.
