Job Description
Summary
The Electrician provides electrical support and general assistance
to all departments/sections at the Midwestern University Glendale
Campus as needed. This position will report to the Lead
Electrician.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical
circuits/systems campus-wide.
• Reads and interprets electrical blueprints and wire
diagrams
• Bends, cuts, and installs EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing) and
the other various types of electrical conduit such as IMC and rigid
conduit
• Installs and terminates electrical conductors for various
electrical circuits
• Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical transformers,
distribution panels, circuit breakers, switches, receptacles,
junction boxes, interior/exterior lighting fixtures and emergency
lighting systems
• Utilizes electrical hand tools such as needle nose pliers,
diagonal wire cutters, linesmen pliers, and other electrical hand
tools
• Utilizes various electrical test equipment such as
multi-meters, circuit tracers, amp-meters and other electrical test
equipment to diagnose electrical circuit failures
• Responsible for monitoring and accomplishing all assigned
electrical repair work orders
• Performs/assists in the maintenance and repair of plumbing,
structural and HVAC systems as assigned
• Performs/assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair
of special systems such as access control, fire alarm, emergency
broadcast systems and other special systems as assigned
• Performs/assists in the installation of low-voltage cabling,
including CAT6, CAT6A, and single-mode fiber.
• Performs/assists special events and classroom setups as
assigned
• Performs after-hours, weekends and holidays standby duty as
assigned
• Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
Must have 3-5 years of experience in electrical/electronic
installation, maintenance & repair is required. Completion of a
one year certificate from college or technical school,
apprenticeship from an Electrical Contractor Employer or an
Associate’s degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year
College/Technical school are desired. Experience in the
installation, maintenance & repair of fire alarm and access
control systems is desired. Experience in installation of
low-voltage cabling (CAT6, CAT6E, single-mode fiber) is desired.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Computer Skills
Computer proficiency in MS Office, Word. Excel knowledge is
desired.

mechanical parts, and outdoor weather conditions. Regularly will be

(non-weather), risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation and
vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually
moderate.
