Job Description

This position is at a shipyard in central Houston! Plenty of work, plenty of Overtime! Day and night-shift available Entry level from welding school graduate's excepted. $18-$20 an hr based on testing results Weld Test: Read Carefully to make sure you can pass • Take 2 unbeveled Carbon Steel plates and set the desired gap. There is no minimum or maximum gap that has to be used. Welder’s preference. • Once gap is set, the welder will then put a small tack at each end of the plates in so they bond to each other. • The welder will then mark a line in the center of the plates to designate the 3G (Vertical) side from the 4G (Overhead) side. • Next, the welder will tack their test plate in the 3G position. • Using a 6011 electrode with a 5/32” diameter, the welder will run an uphill pass to seal off the gap between the 2 plates, fusing them together. • NOTE: The welder is not required to penetrate all the way through to the backside of the test plate. • inspected for holes and quality of composition. • After the pass of 6011 has been inspected, the welder will take a 7018 electrode with a 1/8” diameter and run a single weave pass on top of the pass of 6011 that is already • present creating the cap of the weld. • After the pass of 7018 is complete, the welder will clean off the excess slag to have it visually inspected for discrepancies such as undercut, porosity, and overall • appearance. • If the welder’s 3G test is acceptable, they will then proceed to tack their test plates in the 4G position. • Once the welder has tacked their test plates, they will once again, take a 6011 electrode with a 5/32” diameter and run a single pass to seal off the gap between the 2 plates, fusing them together • NOTE: The welder is not required to penetrate all the way through to the backside of the test plate. • Once the welder has completed a single pass with a 6011 5/32” electrode, they will clean off the excess slag with a wire brush and chipping hammer to have the weld • inspected for holes and quality of composition. • After the pass of 6011 has been inspected, the welder will take a 7018 electrode with a 1/8” diameter and run two stringer passes on top of the pass of 6011 that is already • present creating the cap of the weld. • After the 2 passes of 7018 are complete, the welder will clean off the excess slag to have it visually inspected for discrepancies such as undercut, porosity, and overall appearance. Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Welder specializing in Structural Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) to join our fabrication team.
