POSITION SUMMARY The HVAC Systems Technician plays a key role in the installation, assembly, and commissioning of commercial HVAC systems for construction projects. This position necessitates a mix of mechanical installation skills and basic electrical knowledge, along with the capacity to perform system start-up and operational checks, ensuring systems meet design intent and manufacturer specifications. PRIMARY OBJECTIVES • Install commercial HVAC systems adhering to project specifications and codes. • Conduct start-up, testing, and commissioning of HVAC equipment. • Perform minor electrical work related to HVAC installations as necessary. • Support project schedules and deliver installations that prioritize quality standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Install HVAC equipment including air handling units, rooftop units, ductwork, VAV boxes, and exhaust fans. • Set and align equipment, connecting ductwork, refrigerant piping, and condensate piping. • Interpret mechanical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate installations. • Manage start-up and commissioning of HVAC systems, including: • Verifying installations and connections • Conducting pre-start-up inspections • Energizing equipment and confirming safe operation • Adjusting controls as per specifications • Recording performance parameters for service turnover • Execute basic electrical tasks relating to HVAC equipment, such as: • Replacing disconnects when needed • Managing power connections for system changes, ensuring compliance with codes • Extending wiring as necessary using conduit or seal-tite • Communicate any installation issues or delays promptly to the Field Supervisor or Project Manager. • Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and company standards. • Maintain organized job sites and follow safety protocols. • Provide guidance and instruction to apprentices or helpers as necessary. QUALIFICATIONS • 3+ years of commercial HVAC installation experience. • Strong knowledge of HVAC system components, installation methods, and layouts. • Experience with equipment start-up, commissioning, and adjustments. • Basic electrical knowledge pertaining to HVAC installations. • Able to read blueprints and mechanical drawings accurately. • EPA 608 certification required for handling refrigerants. • Familiarity with applicable codes and OSHA safety standards. • Strong problem-solving and communication abilities. • Physical capability to lift heavy materials and work in varied environments. • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
