Job Title: Diesel Mechanic
Location: Houston, TX (Onsite)
Shift/Time: 2nd Shift (1 PM - 9 PM Monday - Friday)
Compensation: We can discuss over a call.
Job Duties And Responsibilities:
• Troubleshot and repaired mechanical malfunctions
• Diagnoses mechanical malfunctions, determines parts needed, and orders through the parts rooms
• Repairs engines, drive trains, front and rear ends, all air, electrical, and hydraulic systems on company-owned equipment
• Repairs, on a minor and/or emergency basis, parts of bodies, i.e., doors, landing gear, etc
• Repairs all Company forklifts
• Makes road calls on disabled Company vehicles and performs minor repairs on the road
• Performs preventative maintenance on a scheduled basis as determined by the Fleet Supervisor
• Inspects vehicle (during P.M. inspection) to ensure all D.O.T. requirements are met
• Repairs all items not meeting D.O.T. requirements; informs supervisor if not immediately repairable
• Performs other tasks/projects as instructed by the Fleet Supervisor, including but not limited to delivering trucks to and from other branch locations and picking up parts
• Adheres to strict safe working practices, Company policies, rules, and regulations, and corrects obvious hazards immediately or reports to supervisor if not immediately correctable
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Automotive/Mechanical Trade or Vocational certification preferred
• 2+ years of Diesel/Automotive Technician experience
• Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements
• In-person travel within the service territories is required
• Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude
• Must supply automotive hand tools (not including heavy-duty or diagnostic tools)
• 3+ ASE certifications
• Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude
• Must be able to safely operate a pallet jack, electric forklift/pallet-jack repair preferred
• Able to obtain and maintain a Class C or A-CDL, and a medical card
• Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and driving record within MVR policy guidelines
• Must have the ability to operate both manual and standard transmissions
Physical Requirement:
• Talk, hear, and see (including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus)
• Frequent climbing, pushing, pulling and maneuvering dolly, hand truck, bay roll up doors, straps, curb ramps, truck doors, boxes, cases, kegs, truck gear shift
• Ability to enter and exit the driver's compartment of the truck and/or behind cab using normally available footholds and handholds
• Must regularly lift and move up to 100lbs
• Pushing/pulling: up to 100lbs force for turning wrenches, pulling out parts
• Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel and crawl to inspect and or wash vehicles
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to hear voice commands in areas with a high level of background noise
• Ability to demonstrate or learn to safely handle large trucks in a critically safe and precise manner within very constrained and compact areas
