Title and Authority Job Title : Journeyman/woman Welder Reporting Structure : This role reports directly to the Operations Supervisor. This role has no supervisory or managerial authority and no direct reports. General Description of the Role The role of the Journeyman/woman Welder will have a firm grasp of the equipment and be able to work independently, they have not yet been here long enough to know when things are not being built to function properly in the field, will not yet be able to identify functional issues in the design or build: is to prepare, cut, assemble, fit, and weld steel to manufacture aggregate and mining equipment. The position may also provide support to the service department with service and repairs including inspecting, dissembling, preforming weld repairs, build ups and replace worn or damaged components by mechanical or welding processes. Role Accountabilities • Safely and efficiently, according to drawings or verbal instructions, layout, prepare, fit and weld steel pieces to tight tolerances and established ELRUS standards. • Understanding the forces applied to the product being manufactured in their end use, and when not specifically direct by the drawings, apply the correct weld process and size welds according to the material being welded and the application of the item being welded. • Be proactive to ensure subassemblies being built will fit with other sections. Ensure the overall appearance of the welded product and functionality of the unit meets ELRUS standards. • Assist with modifications / offer solutions when problems are found. • Provide feedback for improvement in the process and/or product. Specific Tasks • Follow ELRUS Safe Work Practices and Procedures and legislative requirements, working safely and ensuring the safety of your coworkers. • Safe use of all tools and equipment, including overhead cranes and forklifts. • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications. • Plan sequence of tasks and determine tools for the job to optimize the output. • Clean and prepare steel surfaces as needed. • Layout items and using metal-working machines and cutting torches to cut steel, drill or punch holes, bend or press steel into desired shapes. • Fit/tack metal parts together to form complete units or sub-assemblies. • Weld together the fit and tacked items or fasten by mechanical means. • Primarily Mild Steel welding, operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). • Test fit or assembly of subcomponents onto chassi or stand, ensuring proper fit and function. • Keep work area and equipment clean and organized. • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to; • Support service shop. • Assist other departments when required. • Maintenance and repair of shop equipment. • Maintenance and repair of facilities. Skills and Experience/Qualifications • Able to work in an environment focused on safety first. • Able to work effectively and productively without close supervision. • Skilled at following blueprints & drawings. • Attentive to details and you produce accurate/quality work. • Able to fit to tight tolerances. • Able to consistently produce structurally sound and good-looking welds. • Punctual and reliable as a worker. • A good communicator, both verbally and in writing. • Physically capable of safely lifting 50 pounds. • Physically able to stand for up to 10 hours per day. • Physically able to stoop, bend, grip, and work from heights. • Have the ability to see steps ahead in the fabrication processes. • Possess an understanding and appreciation of how your work effects the next step or department in the process. • Be able to contribute to improvements in the process or the product. • Welder certification • Minimum 3 years' experience, ideally in the aggregates industry, but otherwise in an industrial, construction, or mining field. • Possess mechanical aptitude. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings. • Have worked in a manufacturing industry. • Have experience with overhead cranes, Overhead Crane Operator certification preferred. • Be comfortable working at heights, Fall Arrest certification preferred. • Have experience operating forklifts, Forklift Operator certification preferred. Other • This position may require occasional after-hours support, available to work overtime as needed.
