Job Overview- New Glasgow, NS
Matrix HR is currently hiring Journeyperson Electricians and Electrical Apprentices of all levels for upcoming commercial new builds and renovation projects in Nova Scotia, with work in both New Glasgow and Dartmouth. The project will involve renovation work on big-box stores as well as new construction.
Travel time will be paid from Halifax to New Glasgow (at regular wage rate) with an additional $40 per diem for meals.
You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in commercial settings, ensuring safety and compliance with all relevant codes. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical schematics, blueprint reading, and industrial electrical systems. You will be downsizing, renovating and constructing electrical systems of retail stores in the New Glasgow and Dartmouth area.
You must have minimum 2 years commercial electrical experience (apprentices) and 5 years (Journeyman).
Job Details:
• Journeyman Wage $36.54 per hour plus 15% night shift premium
• All levels receive 15% night shift premium and 8% vacation pay
• Work will be night shift (8 hours base shift scheduled between the hours of 9pm-7am)
• Paid travel time from Halifax to New Glasgow (requires own vehicle for daily commuting)
• Daily per diem for meals of $40
• OT available
• Multiple sites in Nova Scotia, opportunity to continue working
• Must have valid Fall Protection, or be willing to obtain
Responsibilities
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to execute electrical installations and repairs accurately.
• Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in retail stores.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues using diagnostic tools and techniques to identify faults efficiently.
• Utilize hand tools and power tools safely to perform installation and repair tasks.
• Assist with commercial renovation projects by updating or replacing existing electrical infrastructure.
• Ensure all work complies with local electrical codes, safety standards, and company policies.
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other tradespeople to complete projects on time and within scope.
• Maintain a clean work environment and document work performed for record-keeping purposes.
Experience
• Proven experience as an electrician in commercial settings is required.
• Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, schematics, and technical diagrams related to electrical systems.
• Ability to read technical manuals and schematics accurately.
• Valid electrician license or proof of apprenticeship
