Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of
Mechanical Technician - HVAC.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance, this position is responsible for refrigeration, cooling, and combined heating and cooling systems, including geo-exchange systems in residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional settings.
key accountabilities
• Plans, lays out, installs, starts-up, connects, maintains, services, repairs, tests, verifies, commissions and de-commissions refrigeration and air conditioning systems, electronic components and their accessories
• Installs and connects piping for the purpose of conveying all types of refrigerants used for both primary and secondary heating and cooling
• Checks efficiency outputs and parameters; inspects and checks operation and integrity of components; determines set points; replaces defective, leaking, discoloured and worn components; performs shut-downs and lock outs; makes adjustments to pressures and controls; cleans and lubricates components; checks calibrations; reassembles and repairs components and systems; starts-up, tests and charges the systems
• Measures, cuts, bends, threads and connects pipe to functional components and utilities and services, tests, adjusts, commissions and decommissions the system

EDUCATION
• Have a minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
QUALIFICATIONS
• Hold a valid Certificate of Qualification (313A) + ODP Card
• Willing to work rotating 12-hour shifts (weekends/holidays)
• Eligible to work in Canada and Canadian equivalency for foreign education, if applicable
• Strong problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; tech/computer comfortable; self-starter
• Safety/environmental compliance focus; Health and Safety experience an asset
• T
echnical: documentation/records, interpret drawings/manuals/tools, troubleshoot
• Radiation/contamination control knowledge; pass Radiation Protection training/exams
• Physical: heights/harness, confined spaces, hot/cold; lift 50 lb; forklift/elevated wok platforms; valid Ontario G license is an asset

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
