Salary Range: $5,011 - $6,107
Starting salary for this position is: $5,011 (Monthly)
Employees hired at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement
after six months and every 12 months thereafter. An employee hired at anything
higher than the entry step of the range will have salary step advancement after
12 months and every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary
range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase.
ABOUT US
Spokane Colleges is comprised of two accredited colleges, Spokane Community
College (SCC) and Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) serving Spokane,
Stevens, Whitman, Ferry, and Pend Oreille Counties, as well as portions of
Lincoln County.
Both colleges are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and
Universities and governed by the Washington State Board of Community and
Technical Colleges.

ABOUT THE HVAC TECHNICIAN - SPOKANE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
JOB SUMMARY
Our HVAC Technician performs skilled work in the inspection, testing, servicing,
and maintenance of HVAC systems, and related equipment at Spokane Colleges
(Spokane Colleges) facilities. Servicing classrooms, lab spaces, auditoriums,
offices and more, the HVAC Technician is a critical and valued member of a
dynamic Facilities team that serves students, staff and faculty at Spokane
Community College (SCC) and Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC).
Under general direction, the HVAC Technician makes repairs to system components
including chillers, boilers, valves, and other items and responds to calls on
heating and cooling problems to evaluate and make appropriate repairs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Evaluate heating and cooling problems, make appropriate diagnosis and make
repairs to faulty HVAC equipment and HVAC systems and controls. *
* Install new control components including valves, actuators, and sensors, and
document HVAC control modifications at completion of projects. May need to
coordinate with administrators, contractors and other trades to implement
projects. *
* Develop cost estimates for repairs and upgrades; purchase supplies and
equipment for HVAC projects; assist in specifying HVAC equipment and
controls. *
* Maintain Spokane Colleges building HVAC control programs and systems. Make
changes to control programs to facilitate building changes and variations in
program needs. *
* Read and evaluate building plans and specifications. *
* Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
* Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal
regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
* Support and advance the Spokane Colleges strategic plan, and perform other
duties as assigned. *
* Assist other trades in completion of maintenance and upgrade projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Current Washington 06A Electrical License.
* Current City of Spokane Mechanics II Gas License.
* Current Refrigerant EPA Certification Card (Universal Preferred).
* Experience with LonWorks, Seimens, Robert Shaw, Schneider Electric (TAC) and
DDC control systems.
* Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and building codes.
* Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
* Ability to set own work priorities.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* City of Spokane Boiler License.
* Ability to perform HVAC and control repairs specific to the Community
Colleges.
* Ability to perform minor plumbing repairs.
* Ability to understand Community Colleges controls layout and needs.
* Experience working for a government or higher education institution.
* Completion of a four-year approved institution course as a Control/HVAC
Technician Trainee; OR five years of applicable experience in installation,
repair, and maintenance of electrical and pneumatic control systems.
Vocational or trade school training in control or HVAC mechanisms may be
substituted, year-for-year, for work experience up to a maximum of two years.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
* Work is equally performed in an indoor office environment and outdoor
uncontrolled elements.
* Work is active.
* Move up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 75 lbs. occasionally. Team lifts are
encouraged and to be used at the employee’s discretion.
* Operate and control power tools or large mechanized, powered and non-powered
equipment.
* Frequent kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and twisting.
* Enters, crouches, twists, works and climbs in and out of confined spaces.
* Extension of arms overhead for sustained periods.
* Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, odors and/or biohazards.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
* Full-time schedule - Monday through Friday, 6 AM to 2:30 PM (12-month,
40-hours a week).
* 6-month probationary period.
* This position is overtime eligible.
* Requires travel between campus sites using Spokane Colleges vehicles.
* Valid motor vehicle operator license is required.
* Criminal background check is required.
* This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement. Membership
is optional.
Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S.
Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an
absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it
any responsibility or obligation on the part of the district to sponsor an H1-B
visa. In addition, the Spokane Colleges maintain a drug-free work environment

Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided
as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; WA State
Retirement Plan; vacation and sick leave begin to accrue at the rate of one (1)
day per month, upon employment. (For positions that are less than full time,
leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.) This
position is designated a bargaining unit position and union membership is not a
condition of employment. Leave accruals and usage are governed by the WFSE
collective bargaining agreement.
