Job Description
Thrustmaster of Texas, Inc. manufactures heavy duty commercial marine propulsion and thrusters. All thrusters are developed in-house by a complete engineering department for mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic design.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES The Welder is responsible for the construction of steel and aluminum weldments and subassemblies using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements.
WELDER (2+ Years Exp) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Determine required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
• Set up and adjust welding machines and work-piece manipulators.
• Tack or weld components and assemblies using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions in accordance with company workplace instructions or approved welding procedures including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and SAW.
• Heat, form, and dress metal components using hand tools, oxy-acetylene torch, or arc welding equipment.
• Remove rough spots and welding slag from work piece using portable grinder, hand file, or chipping hammer.
• Inspect materials, components, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
• Certified to operate overhead cranes up to 50 Tons.
• Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using micrometer, caliper, and other precision measuring instruments.
• Observe tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
• Troubleshoot and repair defects and failures and implement corrective actions.
• Weld mig, tig, aluminum, and heliarc substance.
• Read and analyze blueprints and drawings.
• Complete required documentation on welding procedures to include data entry to track history.
• Ensure performance goals are met for scrap/rework, labor efficiencies, and on time deliveries.
• Ensure quality control in accordance with the company ISO-9001:2008 Quality Assurance System (QAS).
• Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with company HSE standards and procedures.
• Interact and support a broad spectrum of personnel internal and external to the company. Work effectively and efficiently in both team-based and independent working environments to reduce costs and add value to the organization.
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Manager/Supervisor.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job. Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Must show proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Welding Technology Certificate or equivalent education, training, or experience
• Two (2) years experience in the fabrication and welding of heavy steel and aluminum products to include SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Welding Technology or equivalent education, training, or experience;
• AWS Certified Welder (CWS); and
• Two (2) years experience in the fabrication and welding of heavy steel and aluminum products to include SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW.
