Job Description

Job Overview GENERAL SUMMARY: Under direction of an Electrical Supervisor, repairs, replaces and services electrical systems and equipment on Board-managed facilities. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Inspects, services and repairs illuminated signs, roadway and parking area lighting, and traffic signal systems. 2. Removes and replaces ballasts, transformers, capacitors, sockets, starters, fuses, lamps in lighting systems and trouble shoots PLC circuits. 3. Repairs and replaces parts in motors, generators, switchboards, regulators, control­lers and control circuits. 4. Repairs and services airfield lighting on taxiways, runways, aprons, blast walls, security fences and illuminated signs. 5. Locates ground faults and repairs or replaces damaged cables using equipment and tools. 6. Rebuilds or replaces electric security gate components such as controllers, rollers, loop detectors and card readers. 7. Performs airfield photometric testing, underground line locates, and monthly emergency generator testing. 8. Uses blueprints, technical manuals and test equipment to troubleshoot problems and make repairs. 9. Identifies materials, components and equipment required to complete work. 10. Troubleshoots and repairs solid waste compactors, small appliances and other small electric equipment. 11. Participates in Airport winter weather operations as required. Works at various heights up to 100 feet using power-lift equipment. Assists other departments and contractors as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent. Three (3) years of experience in airfield, industrial or commercial electrical systems or related field. Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above. Possession of a Journeyman Electrician license issued by the State of Texas. Ability to work rotating shift assignments. Ability to pass a color vision deficiency test. Ability to pass a medical physical examination. Possession of written portion of the Class B CDL upon three (3) months of hiring and must pass the driving portion of the test within twelve (12) months of the hire date. Operator’s licenses with an “L” restriction are not acceptable. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the codes, practices, methods, tools and materials of the electrical trade. Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the area of assignment. Skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment of the electrical trade including construction equipment such as cranes and back-hoes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals and the ability to maintain current knowledge in the changes in technology and equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to use computers and input data in various programs proficiently. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal. This is a Department of Transportation (DOT) designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and to submit to drug and alcohol screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the DOT safety sensitive position. This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation. EFFORT: Works in and around Board facilities, airport grounds and airport operations areas; works near roadways and moving aircraft. Works outdoors for extended periods of time in inclement weather. Performs manual labor, frequently exerting forces equivalent to lifting 50 pounds, and occasionally exerting forces equivalent to lifting approximately up to 100 pounds. Works at various heights up to 100 feet; uses ladders and power-lift equipment. Works in awkward positions such as stooping, squatting or with arms above the head for extended periods of time. Uses hand, power, and precision tools. Communicates by telephone, two-way radio and in person. Uses near visual acuity in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems. Uses color perception in working with electrical wiring and components. Drives to locations on Airport property.
