Commercial HVAC Service Technician – Controls & Advanced Systems

This is not a repetitive light commercial or residential role — our technicians work on sophisticated HVAC systems, controls, VFDs, chillers, heat recovery equipment, and semi-custom air handling systems across a wide variety of commercial applications. What Makes This Role Different • Advanced commercial HVAC systems • Significant BAS and controls exposure • Hands-on work with VFDs and modulating equipment • Diverse equipment portfolio • Strong technical growth opportunities • Collaborative, highly skilled team environment • Exposure to cutting-edge HVAC technologies What You’ll Work On Controls & BAS • Manufacturer-configured controls • JENEsis / Niagara-based systems • BAS integrations and troubleshooting • Coordination with controls contractors VFDs & Modulating Equipment • Yaskawa • ABB • Mitsubishi • Allen Bradley • Danfoss • Grundfos Commercial HVAC Equipment • Air handling units (3–200 tons) • Heat recovery systems • MAUs / DOAS / VAV systems • Gas heat and heat pumps • Chillers (10–300 tons, scroll & screw) • Evaporative cooling systems • Modulating compressors and fans • EEVs, dampers, fluid control valves, SCR electric heat Note: WMS does not work on VRF systems. Responsibilities • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC equipment • Perform startups, inspections, warranty work, and preventative maintenance • Troubleshoot electrical, refrigeration, airflow, and controls-related issues • Program and configure unit controllers and VFDs • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and control sequences • Work with BAS systems and digital controls interfaces • Communicate professionally with customers and team members • Complete service documentation using email, PDFs, Teams, and other digital tools • Maintain safe work practices at all times • Participate in occasional overtime and travel as needed Compensation & Benefits • Competitive hourly pay based on experience and technical ability • Overtime opportunities available • Service van and tools provided • Health, dental, and vision insurance • Paid vacation • Long- and short-term disability coverage • Ongoing technical development opportunities Pay Range: $25–$40/hr DOE About WMS Mechanical Solutions WMS Mechanical Solutions specializes in high-quality, energy-efficient commercial HVAC systems and advanced mechanical solutions. Requirements: Required • Commercial HVAC service experience • EPA Certification • Strong electrical and refrigeration troubleshooting skills • Experience working with complex HVAC systems • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record • Comfortable using computers and mobile technology • Ability to work independently and as part of a team Preferred Technical Experience • 3-phase electrical diagnostics • Superheat and subcooling analysis • Compressor diagnostics • BAS / controls systems • VFD troubleshooting • BACnet and MSTP communication protocols • Airflow and static pressure diagnostics Physical & Work Environment Requirements Candidates must be comfortable with: • Carrying tools and materials up/down ladders • Working on rooftops in extreme heat and weather conditions • Occasional 10+ hour days • Working 5+ days/week during peak workload periods • Occasional travel or out-of-town work • Lifting 50+ lbs regularly Please only apply if you are comfortable with: • Extended rooftop work in heat and weather • Long workdays during busy periods • Daily ladder use and physical field work • Computer-based documentation and communication • Learning new HVAC software and controls tools
