Responsibilities
• Read and interpret blueprints and sketches to install all piping systems aboard ships.
• Perform shop prefabrication on piping systems utilizing sketches and templates developed from blueprints and ship checks.
• Understand and apply tag out procedures for piping systems using sketches and templates developed from blueprints prior to working on ship piping systems. Accomplish tag out of systems safe for work in accordance with the work authorization form (WAF).
• Execute silver-brazing for Grades 3, 4, and 5.
• Demonstrate knowledge of pipe bending and the ability to bend piping manually or by machine, utilizing templates and sketches while packing piping to prevent contortion.
• Possess knowledge of P-1 and Level 1 piping systems.
• Conduct hydrostatic testing of piping systems.
• Fit and install mechanically attached fittings.
• Thread piping and tap holes to appropriate sizes.
• Prepare piping for welding using grinders or beveling machines, understanding different types of bevels. Fit and install backing rings and E.B. rings.
• Install pipe hangers and supports in accordance with applicable hanger drawings.
• Demonstrate knowledge of various types of pipes and fitting materials, including proper material application regarding piping system requirements, in accordance with MIL-STD-777.
• Fit flanged joints properly, including the correct gaskets and fasteners.
• Set up and perform hot water flushing on silver-brazed piping systems.
• Understand bolting requirements, including various material types and requirements for flange bolting.
