Job Description

Job Summary: The Plumbing Service Technician is a skilled professional responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and light commercial plumbing systems. This role requires a strong understanding of plumbing principles, excellent technical skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service. The technician will work on a variety of systems to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant operation while maintaining accurate records of all work performed. Key Responsibilities: Maintenance: • Perform routine maintenance on plumbing systems to ensure proper operation and longevity. • Inspect plumbing components including pipes, fixtures, water heaters, drains, valves, and pumps. • Clean and service drains, flush water heaters, check water pressure, and inspect for leaks or corrosion. • Adjust and test system components to optimize performance and efficiency. • Recommend and implement water-saving and efficiency upgrades, such as low-flow fixtures or high-efficiency water heaters. Troubleshooting & Repair: • Diagnose plumbing issues related to water supply, drainage, gas lines, and fixtures. • Identify root causes of system failures and determine the best repair solutions. • Repair or replace damaged, leaking, or worn components including pipes, fittings, faucets, toilets, water heaters, sump pumps, and valves. • Perform emergency plumbing repairs promptly and efficiently, including after-hours service when required. • Test systems after repairs to ensure proper functionality and leak-free operation. Customer Service & Communication: • Clearly explain plumbing issues, repairs, and recommendations to customers. • Provide guidance on system upgrades, replacements, and preventative maintenance options. • Maintain a professional, courteous demeanor with customers, team members, and office staff. • Address customer questions and concerns thoroughly and respectfully. Documentation & Compliance: • Maintain accurate daily records of all service calls, repairs, and maintenance performed. • Document system conditions, materials used, services completed, customer discussions, and costs. • Ensure all work complies with local plumbing codes, safety standards, and company policies. • Follow all applicable OSHA safety regulations and company work instructions. Safety & Equipment: • Adhere to all safety protocols on job sites, including proper lifting techniques and use of PPE. • Maintain company vehicle in a clean, organized, and well-stocked condition. • Safely and effectively operate hand tools, power tools, drain cleaning equipment, leak detection devices, and other specialized plumbing tools. Qualifications: • High school diploma or GED required. • Completion of a plumbing apprenticeship, technical training program, or equivalent hands-on experience. • State or local plumbing license required (Journeyman or Master preferred, depending on position). • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. • Minimum of [3] years of verified residential and/or commercial plumbing service experience (adjustable based on seniority). Required Skills and Abilities: • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, fixtures, water heaters, drainage systems, and gas piping. • Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and diagnose complex issues, devise effective solutions, and adapt to changing situations. • Mechanical Aptitude: Skilled in assembling, disassembling, and repairing plumbing systems and components. • Blueprint and Schematic Reading: Proficient in reading and interpreting plumbing drawings, schematics, and electrical diagrams. • Customer Service: Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and active listening skills. Ability to explain technical information in an understandable way. • Physical Stamina & Dexterity: Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs or more), climb ladders, work in confined spaces (attics, basements, crawl spaces), and maneuver in various environments. • Attention to Detail: Precision in all tasks, from installations to inspections and repairs. • Time Management: Ability to organize schedules, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple service calls efficiently. • Computer Literacy: Familiarity with relevant software programs for system control, diagnostics, and record-keeping. Service Titan experience desired but not required, • Adaptability: Ability to adjust to different job sites, system types, and customer needs. • Commitment to Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay updated on new plumbing technologies, industry trends, and best practices. • Pay and Benefits: Pay based on experience. Work Environment: Plumbing Service Technicians work in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including homes, schools, hospitals, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities. Work may involve exposure to various weather conditions, cramped spaces, and uncomfortable temperatures. Schedules may vary.
