POSITION SUMMARY This position is an important role that is responsible for the planning, installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance of the electrical and mechanical equipment and within the CHEO facility. Sometimes this is through a contractor, but the Electrician has main role in the design, coordination, and implementation of this work. Includes department and capital projects. An Electrician at CHEO is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining the electrical systems that are used to support the operations of the facility. This may include electrical panels, wiring, lighting systems, and other electrical or HVAC equipment. They work closely with other members of the maintenance team to ensure that the systems are operating efficiently and safely, and they may be called upon to troubleshoot and fix any issues that arise. In addition to technical skills, electricians in a healthcare setting should have good communication skills, as they may be required to work closely with clinicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure that the electrical systems meet the needs of the facility. They should also be able to work independently and be able to prioritize tasks effectively in order to meet the demanding needs of CHEO. JOB DESCRIPTION: • Electrical Safety • Inspect every electrical device that shows up at CHEO • Investigate any smells or concerns related to electrical safety • Assures work area is kept safe and clean • Typical normal voltage work (~120V) that includes lighting/outlets • Inspection and maintain existing • Replace items that have failed • Install new items that are required through tenant requests • Emergency Power • Similar to normal voltage work • Weekly testing of the generators and basic PMs for the equipment • ESA inspections and reporting • Keep ESA book up to date of any added equipment or devices • Work with ESA to maintain safety and standards • Preventative Maintenance of electrical systems • Complete scheduled maintenance on all electrical components at CHEO • Includes verifying contractor work for systems that service contractors do • Help develop and update maintenance plans for electrical equipment • Technical support with project and planning teams • As many projects are ongoing the need to provide technical information on the systems at CHEO is required to ensure standards are maintained in the organization and continuation of technical information QUALIFICATIONS: • Criminal Record Check (Essential) • Candidate must hold a valid National Journeyman Electrician Certificate (Red Seal) (Essential) • Minimum of 5 years and valid qualifications as a National Journeyman Electrician (Red Seal (Essential) • Experience in Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities (Preferred) • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of mechanical and HVAC systems (Preferred) • Comprehension of fire alarm systems (Preferred) • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings. (Preferred) • Demonstrated mechanically inclined and electronically inclined. (Preferred) • Demonstrated computer, office, and word processing skills. (Preferred) • Demonstrated ability to work with power and hand tools. (Preferred) • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail. (Preferred) • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-skilled environment. (Preferred) • Demonstrated ability to work on inter-disciplinary project teams. (Preferred) • Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills. (Preferred) • Must be available to work scheduled overtime and participate in rotational after-hours coverage up to four times annually (Essential) • Fluently bilingual in French and English (Preferred) • Please note you will be represented by the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA).
