Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277 bed Joint Commission accredited
psychiatric inpatient facility located in Petersburg, Virginia. CSH has proudly
been serving citizens of the Commonwealth since 1870, when we opened our doors
as the first psychiatric hospital in the country dedicated to the treatment of
African Americans. A new and modern CSH is currently under construction on the
same property, with a scheduled completion date of 2027.
CSH maintains the only maximum-security treatment facility in the state (111
beds). We also have 166 beds available for individuals in the community who need
inpatient care, as well as individuals in the criminal justice system. We
believe that treatment should be holistic and focused on the person’s individual
needs, recognizing that recovery is not linear or the same for every person.
Treatment modalities may include medication, evidence-based group and individual
therapy, peer support, psychosocial rehabilitation, vocational training,
preparation for court, and treatment for substance use.
Central State Hospital is currently recruiting for a Full-Time Plumber/HVAC with
the ability to analyze defects and malfunctions to determine the scope of the
problem. You will be performing as a Journeyman Plumber/Pipefitter with
responsibility for a complete project from initial layout to final assembly.
Utilizing the ability to perform small repairs in the areas of plumbing,
electrical, HVAC and painting. Also, you will performs assignments independently
therefore; responsible for planning the assigned work, following sketches,
diagrams and blueprints.
Job Duties:
- Performs diagnostic and corrective maintenance repairs for major/minor
installation,
repairs and alteration to all plumbing, plumbing fixtures, domestic water
system, gas
lines, sanitary/steam sewers, steam/return systems, pipe fitting, welding, and
installation for all piping within uniform building code guidelines,
manufacturer’s
specifications, environmental, OSHA and other adopted safety protocols and
requirements within specified timeframes of work order.
- Performs general preventive, corrective maintenance and notes deficiencies in
assigned
Zone by creating work orders as well as PM water temps at mixing valves, eye
washes,
steam traps and other related parts, pipe insulation, etc.
- Check Sanitary and Storm Sewer systems for cross contamination and illicit
discharges
as scheduled in work order system.
- Enters time, progress, materials, tasks and completion data for work performed
on
assigned work orders in the automated work order system.
- Maintain service maintenance records, work orders, and requisitions and other
miscellaneous records as needed or requested by administration.
- Weather Related Duties to consist of but not limited to Snow and Ice removal
from
sidewalks / roadways.
- Emergency Call Back for assigned time period after normal business
hours/schedule,
holidays and weekend.
- Mandatory and other training as required to maintain certifications. Perform
other
duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to perform small repairs in the areas of electrical, HVAC and
painting.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License
