Job Description

Duties • Welder shall have specialized knowledge in the Submerged Arc welding (SAW) process sets up and operates automated or semi-automatic machinery to join heavy-duty pipe, primarily using granular flux and continuously fed electrodes. They are responsible for preparing pipe joints, setting welding parameters (current, voltage, speed), maintaining equipment, and inspecting high-penetration welds on materials like carbon steel. Knowledge level required: • Ability to Read and write in English is required. • High school diploma or equivalent with minimum 5 years of Pipe welding experience with semi -automated SAW process. Position Primary Duties and Responsibilities: • SAW Operations: Utilizing automated tractors or hand-held guns to perform submerged arc welding on pipes, ensuring consistent, high-quality, and deep-penetration welds. • Set Up & Prep: Preparing, cleaning, and positioning pipe components according to blueprints or layouts, including setting up welding machines and flux management systems. • Parameter Adjustment: Adjusting machine controls (voltage, amperage, wire feed, speed) to meet specific welding procedure specifications. • Inspection & Cleaning: Removing solidified slag after welding, inspecting welds for defects, and recovering excess flux with vacuum systems. • Safety Adherence: Strictly following safety procedures, wearing specialized gear, and working safely in industrial or fabrication shop environments. Key Requirements & Skills • SAW Expertise: Proven experience with submerged arc welding processes and equipment. • Technical Skill: Proficiency in reading blueprints, pipe specifications, and welding symbols. • Precision: Extreme attention to detail to ensure high-quality welds on thick-walled pipe. • Tool Usage: Familiarity with welding machines, plasma cutters, and cleaning tools.
