Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibility of but not limited to assembling and installing pipe systems,
pipe supports, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Installs pipe for steam,
hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production
and processing systems.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
* High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
* 4 years of refinery experience preferred.
* The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
Certification Preferred; however, training is provided by CVR.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
* Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a
particular field.
* Knowledge of erection in structural jobs.
* Ability to read and interpret the drawing for both piping and structural.
* Knowledge in rigging.
* Ability to work on high elevation.
* Fluent in English, oral and written required.
* Ability to adjust schedules to meet business needs.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
* Plan and sketch piping systems.
* Lays out, assembles, installs and repairs pipe systems of various shapes,
sizes, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water,
heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and
processing systems, applying knowledge of system operation, and following
blueprints: Selects type and size of pipe, and related materials and
equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to
specifications
* Lay-out, cutting, grinding, fit-up all classes and sizes of pipes for
turbine, boiler, exchangers filters and pumps piping lines.
* Ability to break down and construct heat exchangers.
* Work in confined spaces such as but not limited to vessels, drums, and tanks.
* Work proficiently while in an HF acid suit with supplied air when blinding/
bolting components.
* Work proficiently in supplied air full face mask when blinding/ bolting
components.
* Heavy rigging of drill stems, gear boxes, crane cables, and buckets at high
elevations using audible and hand signal.
* Assist with removal on pumps and motors.
* Must follow procedures for blinding and de-blinding.
* Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain
that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness.
* Plans installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering
with activities of other workers.
* Cuts pipe, using saws, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine.
* Threads pipe, using pipe threading machine.
* Bend tube, using tube bending tools.
* Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and
fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic.
* Connect pipes, using threaded, brazed, fused, welded and hand tools.
* Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers, using hand
tools and power tools.
* Installs and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and
equipment, such as pumps and cylinders, using hand tools.
* Increases pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to
test system for leaks.
* May weld pipe supports structural steel members.
* May observe production machines in assigned areas of manufacturing facility
to detect machinery malfunctions.
* May operate machinery to verify repair.
* Installing piping systems that must withstand high pressure.
* Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions
of the job.
* Works under immediate supervision.
* Regularly communicate with supervisor work progress, concerns, and questions.
* Perform routine maintenance and repairs on piping systems.
* Performs good housekeeping.
